Our Departure
John, our trip’s leader, picked me up around 4pm. We headed to the car rental place at the airport. We had a little trouble choosing a van. After getting the first one, we decided it didn’t have quite as much room as the other’s. We went back and got another one that ended up having a change oil light warning. I got the keys for a third van. This one was good to go. We decided to divide up the team and leave at different times. I saw the drivers of the second van (Tim and Mike) picking up a vehicle. We chatted for a bit and I could see they were excited. I was pretty excited too. I took off and drove to Jason’s house. That was our meeting spot. Angela, Tami and Kelsey arrived shortly after me. We loaded the van and headed out. So we had a total of 6 people in the van and it was packed with stuff in the back. We had 3 guys: Jason, John and myself and the 3 ladies mentioned above.
John started out driving. I took shotgun and talked with John for a while. We stopped around 10pm for a meal in Des Moines. I took over driving around 11pm. Tami rode shotgun. We talked about getting tickets and accidents. I realized I haven’t had a speeding ticket for many years. (foreshadowing) I got pretty tired after awhile. I drove until 3am and then I slept in the back.
